‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’: Aditya Chopra Announces Broadway Debut With ‘Come Fall In Love The DDLJ Musical’

One of the most popular romantic Indian films and the longest running movie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, will soon be turned into a Broadway musical. Director Aditya Chopra has announced his Broadway debut with Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical. The musical will premiere in September 2022. 

Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical is being produced by Yash Raj Films and Chopra has been working on it for past three years. Based on the 1995 Hindi film, the musical will also feature book and lyrics by Laurence Oliver Award-winner Nell Benjamin. The music will be composed by Indian musicians Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani. Tony and Emmy awards winner Rob Ashford (Frozen fame) and Shruti Merchant will choreograph it.

The design team will also include Emmy and Tony Award winner Derek McLane.

Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical is set to be on stage in the Broadway season of 2022-2023. In September 2022, the musical will premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.

Chopra says, “Western musical theatre and Indian films are two long lost lovers separated in time.” Benjamin adds, “DDLJ was my introduction to Indian filmmaking before I even knew who the amazing Aditya Chopra was, and the movie had such joy and heart that I fell in love with it. I was so happy to be approached to do the musical.”

The basic premise for Come Fall In Love: the DDLJ Musical remains the same as the plot of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Simran, a young Indian-American woman is set to go for an arranged marriage in India but she encounters a charming man on a Europe trip and her plans seem to be falling.
