Giancarlo Esposito Makes Strange Prediction About ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Date

After Pedro Pascal stole the show in Boba Fett’s Bookseries considered to be season 2.5 of The Mandalorian, fans can’t wait for the continuation of Din Djarin and Grogu’s adventure, Baby Yoda. In addition to the beloved duo, the Star Wars series will bring back the villain Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

In a recent interview for the The Rich Eisen Showthe actor took the opportunity to talk about the third season of The Mandalorian and about a possible premiere date for the new episodes. Esposito said fans will get access to the new episodes on Disney+ sometime during the North American summer, which starts around June 21 and runs through September 23.

“You will be able to watch soon. I have a few things to do to put some finishing touches on my entry, but I believe it will be sometime this summer. No date set yet, but soon.”

Considering that the recordings ended recently and that the Lucasfilm Calendar on Disney+ is already quite committed in the coming months with Obi-Wan Kenobi and andor, it is more likely that the actor purposely confused or lied to ensure that the date is kept secret. Recently, the TV Line assured that the release of the third season will happen at the end of 2022, around Christmas time.

In the same interview, Giancarlo Esposito also shared some curious details about his entrance process to the series, praising the studio for waiting for his schedule to be free for recordings.

“Oh my God, Jon Favreau called me, said ‘I have good news and bad news.’ I said ‘What’s the good news?’ and he said ‘I wrote a role for you in The Mandalorian, specifically for you.’ And I said ‘Wow, fantastic, what’s the bad news?’ “The bad news is that all the money goes into production.” And I said ‘Is there more good news?’ And he said to me ‘Disney is doing this.’ Wow, I have nothing but great things to say about this studio, about this franchise, regarding how they enlightened our kids about mythology and what is right and how to do what is right, how to be at work, work on The Mandalorian… and they waited for me with wonderful love and respect for me to come back and do what I do and love to do, so this is a great show.”

Esposito also revealed what his only requirement was: “I have to have a cape.”

The series stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison, Gina Carano, Katee Sackhoff, Ming-Na Wen, Bill Burr, Timothy Olyphant, Carl Weathers, Rosario Dawson and Mark Hamill. The Mandalorian was created by Jon Favreau and produced by Dave Filoni.
